Tarbes’s Musée de la Déportation et de la Résistance will present 'No estamos muertos' from 13 July to 16 October 2026, a project built around the memory of the Spanish Republican exile and the Retirada. The exhibition brings together works by Daniel Despothuis, described by the museum as an Ariège-based contemporary artist, alongside documentary material from the Archives départementales des Hautes-Pyrénées.
According to the museum, Despothuis has focused on the subject for more than ten years. The exhibition includes his works 'Presence V' and 'No estamos muertos', which are presented with a trilingual film and aim to evoke the memories of Spanish exiles and of the camp at Argelès-sur-Mer. The museum says the artistic installations will be supplemented by several educational panels prepared by the departmental archives on the arrival of Spanish Republicans in south-west France.
The exhibition page frames the project as both memorial and educational, inviting visitors not to forget those who lived through the experience of exile and internment. The museum’s programme also lists a visit on 16 October, when the exhibition closes.
An accompanying event is scheduled for 19 September at 17:00, when Despothuis will present 'Fragments d’exils' with a musician and two readers. The exhibition page links that performance to the 2026 European Heritage Days. The museum also lists a separate lecture, 'Fragments d’exil', in its broader agenda, but the exhibition page specifically announces the live performance 'Fragments d’exils' as part of the programme around 'No estamos muertos'.
