The Kirchner Museum Davos has opened its summer exhibition 'FARBENRAUSCH', a show that places colour at the centre of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s art and invites visitors into interactive displays exploring how colour works in both artistic and scientific terms. According to the museum, the exhibition opened on 13 June 2026 and runs until 3 January 2027, extending its summer programme well into the new year.

The museum’s exhibition page describes 'FARBENRAUSCH' as “a feast for the senses” that encourages visitors to discover Kirchner’s world in its “luminous facets” while also examining colour itself. The presentation links Kirchner’s painting with the history of colour theory, and it frames colour not as a fixed quality but as something produced through light, material, vision and perception. The museum says the exhibition includes experiments and interactive stations that show how colour is created through refraction, reflection and absorption, as well as through the interaction of the eye and the brain.

The project also draws on a collaboration with the Carl Bosch Museum Heidelberg, which is named on the museum’s newsletter material as part of the exhibition’s development. The exhibition text says Kirchner’s work ranges from the vivid contrasts of his Berlin years to the more vibrating, nearly abstract colour harmonies of his Davos period, and positions colour as a medium of emotion, perception and lived experience. The museum’s newsletter adds that the exhibition has already received positive feedback during its short run.

Kirchner Museum Davos is using the exhibition to expand access and interpretation through audio and print material. A German- and English-language audioguide is available at the museum ticket desk or through the free Hearonymus app, with Swiss actor Nikolaus Schmid as narrator. The museum also points visitors to its exhibition magazine, 'Kirchner+', which includes an interview with the museum’s conservator, Arno Gehrer. The magazine is available free in German during a visit, and the museum says it will be available digitally on its website from August.

Alongside the exhibition, the museum is staging its annual summer festival in Kirchner Park on 5 July 2026, from 12:00 to 17:00. The festival is listed as free admission and is announced as taking place in all weather conditions, with the programme adapted as needed. The museum’s event page says visitors can expect a jazz concert as part of Davos Klosters Sounds Good, as well as activities for children and adults and several food stalls.

The museum’s newsletter describes the festival as a creative summer day for the whole family. Its event listing repeats the practical details: the venue is Kirchner Park in Davos, the event is free, and the museum says the programme will be adjusted if weather requires it. With 'FARBENRAUSCH' on view until 3 January 2027 and the summer festival set for 5 July 2026, the museum is keeping colour and community at the centre of its season.
