Kirchner Museum Davos is presenting ‘Farbenrausch’ from 14 June 2026 through 3 January 2027. The exhibition centres on Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s use of colour, bringing together his paintings with experiments and interactive stations addressing light, material and perception.
The presentation traces works from the intense contrasts of Kirchner’s Berlin years to the vibrating, near-abstract colour harmonies of his Davos period. It considers colour as a medium for emotion and an expression of perception and lived experience.
Interactive elements examine how colour arises through the refraction, reflection and absorption of light, as well as through the interaction of the eye and brain. The exhibition frames colour as the outcome of processes involving light, material and perception.
A school programme connected to ‘Farbenrausch’ includes a Kirchner Box with creative materials and activities. Public guided tours at Kirchner Museum Davos take place on Tuesdays and Sundays, from 4 to 4.45pm.
