Viborg Kunsthal will open ‘Superposition’ by Asger Harbou Gjerdevik on Thursday, 1 October, from 7 to 9 p.m., with an introduction by the artist; the exhibition will remain on view through 10 January 2027.
The exhibition presents a series of new works spanning painting, sculpture and installation. Inspired by the quantum-physics concept of superposition, Gjerdevik adopts an artistic approach in which works move between several expressions and meanings at the same time.
‘Superposition’ is structured as a sequence of scenarios with changing colours, light and themes, creating a dynamic narrative through the exhibition rooms. The project also plays with the idea that a work can be both an object and a sculpture at the same time, allowing viewers to experience the works as they constantly pendulate between different states.
Gjerdevik works deliberately with ‘sampling’: the styles of his paintings can be difficult to define, while his sculptures build on earlier experiments with materials and objects from everyday life.
Born in 1986, Asger Harbou Gjerdevik lives and works in Copenhagen and was educated at the Royal College of Art, where he completed an MFA, and Central Saint Martins, where he completed a BA. His practice belongs to an expressive and playful tradition in which painting, drawing, collage and sculpture are woven together in spontaneous, humorous compositions. His works move between the figurative and the abstract, with a visual language containing poetic fragments, rhythmic lines and traces of pop and everyday culture.
