In 2027, The Huntington will present exhibitions and installations that bring its library, art, and botanical collections into unexpected conversation.
The schedule includes ‘David Hockney: The Four Seasons,’ opening April 18, 2027, and running through Jan. 17, 2028. The exhibition centers on ‘The Four Seasons, Woldgate Woods (Spring 2011, Summer 2010, Autumn 2010, Winter 2010)’ by David Hockney, one of the most influential British artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Now in The Huntington’s collection, the work is an immersive, multiscreen digital landscape that captures the English countryside through the changing seasons and invites visitors to reflect on nature, landscape, and perception.
‘Petromania: Obsessing about Stones from Asia to America’ will run from Jan. 31, 2027, to March 27, 2028. The exhibition explores how the appreciation of rocks has shaped artistic and cultural traditions across China, Japan, and California, drawing on stones, paintings, and rare books from The Huntington’s collections and local lenders to trace centuries of aesthetic and philosophical inquiry. Stones have long been understood as embodiments of nature’s vital energy and as catalysts for poetry, painting, and contemplation; practices of stone appreciation evolved across cultures and continents, and examining this enduring practice shows how ordinary rocks can inspire extraordinary ways of seeing the natural world and humanity’s place within it.
The schedule includes ‘William Blake: From the Ancients to L.A.,’ running May 22 through Sept. 13, 2027. Highlights include works by poet and artist William Blake.
The program also highlights the return of the Gutenberg Bible to public view in ‘Stories from the Library: The Lure of Gothic,’ alongside short films by Ghetto Film School students.
