Viborg Kunsthal is inviting audiences to the opening of Regitze Engelsborg Karlsen’s ‘Fossil Soup’ on Thursday, 1 October, from 19:00 to 21:00. The opening programme includes the performance ‘Vi koger en suppe.’
The exhibition is a solo presentation in the kunsthal’s east wing, and it is listed as running from 2 October 2026 to 10 January 2027.
Among the works and subjects named for the exhibition are a sponge carved from stone, a poetic treatment of a handful of gravel, animations and an exploration of a local gravel pit.
Through sculpture, installation, text, photography and performance, Karlsen examines and works with geological materials including sand, gravel, stone, soil and mud.
Her starting point is a specific handful of gravel that she collected in Viborg, from which she re-enchants the gravel and the geology. The exhibition’s imagery also includes a slope falling out of shape, a small friend in the sand with wondering eyes, and a heavy stomach that digests time and crushes stones; this digestion is ongoing and constitutes a new reworking of the local landscapes.
