‘BETWEEN TEMPORALITIES’ brings together paintings, sculptures and installations that explore matter as both a bearer of time and an active participant in its formation. The exhibition’s starting point is field research conducted in forests, quarries and karst landscapes, through which it examines geological, biological and human timescales.
Limestone, lime paste and canvas are altered through carbonation, burning and weathering, with these processes leaving the materials carrying traces of their own histories.
Jaee Tee is a Malaysian contemporary artist who lives and works between Kuala Lumpur and Leipzig. Her research-based practice spans painting, sculpture and installation, while field research and material experiments form the basis of her examination of transformation, transience and permanence, including the relationship between matter and time.
