Thomas Tait will develop a marionette pulley system and sculptural installation exploring puppetry, kinetics, and the possibility of consciousness arising from a structural apparatus. The installation will be on view Mar–Apr 2027.
For In Practice, Tait will organize the marionette pulley system around a central armature and amplify friction within the installation to explore whether a conscious 'ghost' can arise from a structural apparatus.
Tait’s figurines are composed of found and organic materials; their visible inner supporting structures and unpredictable movement suggest an interiority.
Immersed in the language of puppetry, Tait’s work borrows world-building methods from set design and kinetics thinking from performance.
