English, b. 1965
English artist and art collector who became a defining figure of the Young British Artists movement in the 1990s. Hirst organised the landmark Freeze exhibition in 1988 that launched numerous contemporary British artists' careers, while his own provocative works explore mortality through installations and glass tank pieces. He won the Turner Prize in 1995.
