David Benrimon Fine Art is presenting 'Made in Britain' from September 10 through October 15, 2026.
The exhibition brings together works by David Hockney, Michael Craig-Martin, Damien Hirst, Julian Opie, Harland Miller and Ian Davenport. It connects pioneers of mid-20th-century British Pop with contemporary artists who developed its approach, focusing on the transformation of the mundane and popular culture into fine art.
A selection of David Hockney’s '20 Flowers' iPad series and earlier still lifes will be featured in the show. Alongside Hockney, the exhibition contrasts Michael Craig-Martin’s minimalist deconstructions of everyday objects with Hockney’s painterly interpretation of life; Craig-Martin’s practice examines the relationship between sign, language and object through simplified lines and vivid color.
Damien Hirst and Julian Opie are presented as part of the younger generation connected to Craig-Martin, with Hirst represented by provocative conceptual works and Opie by clean, simplified silhouettes.
At the center of the exhibition is Damien Hirst’s 'In Love With You', which uses butterflies against a heart-shaped background as one of Hirst’s recognizable motifs. Julian Opie’s 'Children Walking' is described as a quintessential example of his bold black outlines, inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, hieroglyphics and universal symbols such as traffic signs.
By elevating everyday objects, commercial motifs and consumer landscapes, the exhibition examines how these artists have challenged conventional ideas of craftsmanship, materiality and fine art.
