Holstebro Kunstmuseum will mark the end of its special exhibition 'SFÆRISK - Kirsten Klein 80 år' with a finissage and book reception on Friday, August 14, from 3 pm to 5 pm. The museum says admission will be free during the event, and visitors will be able to see or revisit the exhibition while also buying the newly released exhibition catalogue at a special price. Kirsten Klein is scheduled to be present.
The event brings together the closing of the exhibition and the launch of its accompanying publication, which is now available through the museum’s webshop and in the shop. According to the museum’s newsletter, the catalogue was created in connection with the artist’s 80th birthday. The reception will include bubbles and something sweet, and no registration is required.
The museum’s material describes 'SFÆRISK' as an exhibition built around a review of Kirsten Klein’s archive. Alongside her more familiar motifs, including the poetic black-and-white landscape photographs for which she is widely known, the show aims to reveal less visible sides of her practice and to nuance the image of her as a nature-romantic photographer of empty landscapes. The newsletter does not specify the exhibition’s full original run, but presents the August 14 date as the finissage.
The new catalogue gathers contributions from the exhibition’s organizers, art historian and curator Line Kjær and Holstebro Kunstmuseum director Anders Gaardboe Jensen. It also includes texts by Rune Gade, associate professor of art history with a specialism in photography at the University of Copenhagen, as well as poet, sound and performance artist Cia Rinne, and cultural geographer and writer Emmy Laura Pérez Fjalland. The publication also contains the exhibition’s thematic texts and travel accounts by Kirsten Klein.
Holstebro Kunstmuseum’s announcement frames the catalogue as an important part of the exhibition’s afterlife as well as the occasion for the reception itself. The catalogue is priced at 299 kroner for the event, compared with a normal price of 399 kroner, or 319 kroner for members of Holstebro Kunstmuseums Venner. The museum says that if visitors cannot attend, the book can also be ordered through the webshop or bought in the museum shop.
The museum’s newsletter also places the event in the context of its wider shop and publishing activity, noting that the shop has recently added other new items. But the main focus remains the finissage for 'SFÆRISK - Kirsten Klein 80 år', which will take place at Holstebro Kunstmuseum in Holstebro on August 14, 2026, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
