The exhibition ‘Anna Thommesen – Vævninger’ will run from 26 September 2026 through 28 February 2027, presenting more than 40 handwoven pictorial tapestries alongside drawings, watercolour sketches and colour samples.
Developed in collaboration with Statens Museum for Kunst, the exhibition was shown there from 7 February to 16 August 2026.
Across five decades, Thommesen created abstract pictorial tapestries with colours and patterns inspired by nature. The exhibition places these tapestries alongside commissions made for private homes, art collections and public spaces including Roskilde Cathedral and the Landsting chamber at Christiansborg.
Her documented public commissions include a tapestry for Vesthimmerlands Gymnasium in Aars, three large gobelins for the former Landsting chamber at Christiansborg, and an antependium, altar cloth and kneeler made for Roskilde Cathedral.
Thommesen brought weaving strongly into modern art, while her work speaks directly to contemporary art’s interest in textile media.
