Bornholms Kunstmuseum says the closing event will celebrate its opportunity to acquire two works by Kirsten Ortwed, and the programme schedules Tine Nygaard to speak at 17.00 about the works the museum has bought.
At 16.00, the finissage programme includes ‘SOFA’, a performance with Bob Kil.
The museum’s newsletter describes ‘OFF-SHORE’ as a special exhibition by sculptor Kirsten Ortwed and calls it critically acclaimed. At Bornholms Kunstmuseum, ‘OFF-SHORE’ occupies the museum’s five largest galleries—more than 500 square metres—and presents sculptural landscapes in which every movement and every view has the potential to change how viewers experience a room, a form and a sculpture.
The exhibition presents Ortwed’s sculptural language and thinking across five decades, and it is the first time since 2008 that so many of her works have been assembled.
In her early works from the 1970s and 1980s, Ortwed investigates sculpture’s historical norms before creating what the museum calls anti-sculptures: works placed on walls rather than on pedestals, and sculptures made from canvas and rubber rather than bronze.
