'Magt og mode i Romerriget' is described as the first major exhibition in Denmark and internationally to focus on ancient fashion as a language of power. The exhibition draws on the museum’s Roman portrait sculptures and significant loans from international museums.
Its subject is the way clothing, adornment, colour, hairstyles and perfume communicated status, identity and political power in the Roman Empire.
Among the exhibition’s highlights are three Roman garments loaned by the British Museum. It also includes parts of a colossal portrait statue of Septimius Severus from the archaeological museum in Burdur.
Antiquity opens new perspectives on how people saw themselves and each other in the past, as well as how people see themselves and each other now.
