Kirstine Vaaben’s exhibition ‘Plantespor’ will run at Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon from 3 October to 8 November 2026, with its opening scheduled for 3 October from 14:00 to 16:00. It is the third and final contemporary-art exhibition in the venue’s 2026 programme.
Vaaben created the exhibition specifically for Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon, incorporating the surrounding park, lake and West Jutland landscape. The exhibition relates concretely to the area around the pavilion and presents what it calls “invisible nature”: aspects of the environment that many people take for granted or do not notice, including nature amid the cultivated agricultural land around Videbæk.
A long frieze will form part of the exhibition, made from plaster reliefs carrying direct impressions of plants gathered around Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon. Dried plants including oak, ferns, heather and blackberries will be incorporated into the reliefs.
‘Plantespor’ will also include large drawings in ink, watercolour and pastel. In these works, Vaaben creates structures that recall the way nature forms organic systems, drawing on growth principles associated with plants, algae, cells and fungal spores. Alongside the drawings, she is developing ceramic forms and casts in plaster and bronze to integrate into the sculptures.
Vaaben studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1990 to 1997, and her practice spans sculpture, drawing, printmaking and collage. The exhibition is supported by Statens Kunstfond, while Grosserer L. F. Foghts Fond has provided production support to Vaaben.
