Studio Ost has scheduled Wolfgang F. Klee’s exhibition ‘Zeichnungen und Objekte’ for a run beginning 27 September and ending 15 November 2026.
In the year of his 90th birthday, Klee presents a selection from his late work comprising drawings and three-dimensional objects.
In works from the early 2000s, Klee’s figures appeared as three-dimensional ‘little men’ in ‘cardboard habitats,’ where bodies merge through scenarios involving sometimes extreme and grotesque actions.
According to art historian Alexandra Flieth, the visual harshness of these scenes conceals a vulnerable search for closeness.
Klee began with nature motifs in the 1960s and later shifted to expressive figures. He studied at HfG Offenbach and the Städelschule Frankfurt, and was a co-founder and long-serving managing director of Künstlerwerkstatt Klosterpresse. Klee had previously exhibited at the Kunsthalle Darmstadt in 1983 and 1989.
