Prints & Multiples Auction to Feature Picasso, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Mitchell, and More

Prints & Multiples Auction to Feature Picasso, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Mitchell, and More Image: Joan Mitchell (American, 1925-1992), Bedford III (from Bedford Series), 1981

Freeman's | Hindman will hold its Prints & Multiples auction in New York on Wednesday 4 November 2026 at 11 am Eastern Time. The sale of 150 lots spans Old Master, Modern and Contemporary prints and multiples, with works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Tom Wesselmann, Joan Miró and Albrecht Dürer.

The auction house singles out Picasso's 'Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe, d'après Manet I' (1962), a linocut in which Picasso reworks Manet's celebrated composition with bold colour, a flattened sense of space and playful distortions of the human figure. The print belongs to the period when Picasso increasingly turned to the masters of European painting, among them Velázquez, Cranach and Rembrandt, reinterpreting their works rather than copying them.

Abstraction is represented by Joan Mitchell's 'Bedford III (from Bedford Series)' (1981) and by works from Helen Frankenthaler. Pop art is represented by Roy Lichtenstein's 'Modern Head #2 (from the Modern Head series)' (1970) and several works by Andy Warhol, including 'Mick Jagger' (1975), the complete three-part portfolio 'Love' (1983) and 'Chicken 'N Dumplings Soup' from the 'Campbell's Soup II' series (1969).

The highlights also include Keith Haring's 'Pop Shop I: one plate' (1987) and 'La Flûte Enchantée' (1967), a print after Marc Chagall by Charles Sorlier.

Ahead of the sale, the works can be viewed at Freeman's | Hindman's galleries at 32 East 67th Street, from 26 to 30 October, 10 am to 5 pm, on 31 October from noon to 5 pm, and on 2 and 3 November from 10 am to 5 pm.
