Helen Frankenthaler

United States, 1928–2011

Helen Frankenthaler was an American abstract expressionist painter known for her contributions to postwar American painting. She exhibited her work for over six decades, including a 1989 retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Her art was influenced by artists such as Hans Hofmann and Jackson Pollock. In 2001, she received the National Medal of Arts.
