Duchy of Bavaria, 1471–1528
Albrecht Dürer was a German painter, printmaker, and theorist of the German Renaissance. He was born in Nuremberg and gained fame across Europe in his twenties through his high-quality woodcut prints. Dürer had contact with major Italian artists such as Raphael, Giovanni Bellini, and Leonardo da Vinci. From 1512, he was patronized by Emperor Maximilian I.
