Oksana Kazmina’s ‘Encounters’ programme is scheduled for 23 September, 30 September, 14 October and 21 October 2026. The later dates are set for 30 September at 18:00, as part of the Office for Ukraine OPEN HOUSE, at < rotor > Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst; 14 October at 18:00 at ZIEGEL. Atelier Gemeinschaft ukrainischer Künstler*innen; and 21 October at 18:00 at a venue still to be confirmed.
Kazmina is an artist, filmmaker and performer whose multimedia work examines the relationship between bodies and media, the mediation of experience and embodied memory. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, her practice has also focused on “unarchiving,” a continuing process that challenges the idea of an archive from the perspective of a female artist who is constantly moving and absent while her homeland is being destroyed. For Kazmina, memory is also a selective process strongly connected to places, other people and interpersonal and intrapersonal experience.
Her ongoing project ‘Contemporary History of Ukraine’, begun in 2022, takes different media and forms according to her location and context, including video, bacteria and performances.
Kazmina is part of the Freefilmers film movement, associated with Mariupol and Kyiv, as well as solidarity networks in Ukraine. The residency is organised through BRIDGE, a project involving AWARE in Paris, City of Women in Ljubljana and Kunsthaus Graz, and supported by Creative Europe for 2026–2028.
BRIDGE’s invitations to female-identifying artists pursue the project’s goal of actively reducing intersectional barriers and challenges linked to gender and diasporic identity.
