The new Saastamoinen Foundation collection exhibition 'Alien in Me' opens next week and examines experiences of alienation and otherness in a world that is constantly changing.
The exhibition includes new acquisitions alongside earlier works, with some of the earlier pieces being shown for the first time.
Many boundaries once regarded as clear appear increasingly fluid and interwoven, including those between the human and the non-human, the body and the machine, gender identities, and cultural and linguistic belonging.
At the exhibition's core are encounters and relationships, including layered connections with cultures, landscapes, places, technologies, other people, bodies, and more-than-human beings. The exhibition is curated by EMMA director Krist Gruijthuijsen. It also celebrates EMMA's long-term partnership with the Saastamoinen Foundation, the museum's founding partner.
Gillian Wearing's 'Me as Pier Paolo Pasolini,' made in 2024, is identified in the Saastamoinen Foundation art collection.
