The sculpture park Jupiter Artland will open "M.I.A.S.M.A.", a major exhibition by Turner Prize winner Tai Shani, on 29 October. The project is a co-commission with Kunsthalle Bern in Switzerland, The Busan Biennial in South Korea and the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands, and Jupiter Artland describes it as its first international co-commission and a significant widening of its curatorial reach.

The exhibition was first shown at Kunsthalle Bern from 12 June to 23 August 2026. Its title is an acronym for "Moral Injury in the Apocalyptic Sunsets of Modernity disAssociation". In it, Shani reworks the ancient Greek tragedy of Antigone for the present, using the story to ask who is publicly mourned, whose deaths go unseen, and what kinds of love and resistance are still possible amid political, ecological and moral crisis. At Jupiter the work fills the gallery, combining sculpture, image, sound and architecture into an immersive environment that the organisation frames as a world of grief, rebellion and transformation, in line with the feminist counter-myths that run through her practice.

The new show will overlap with Shani's The Spell or The Dream, a large audiovisual installation first presented at Somerset House in London in 2025 and now installed in Jupiter's orchard. Jupiter Artland has extended that work's run into the autumn.

Born in London in 1976 and raised in Goa and Brussels, Shani works across performance, installation, film and experimental writing. A central strand of her practice is the long-running project Dark Continent (DC: Productions), which draws on Christine de Pizan's The Book of the City of Ladies to imagine an allegorical city of women. She shared the 2019 Turner Prize with Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Helen Cammock and Oscar Murillo, and has shown at institutions including Tate, the Serpentine Galleries, Turner Contemporary, The Cosmic House, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Grazer Kunstverein and Tensta Konsthall. In 2025 she also presented The Sun Is a Flame That Haunts The Night on New York's High Line.
