‘After Everything, You Embraced My Being Like A Warm, Gentle Breeze’ marks Patrick Dean Hubbell’s first solo museum exhibition in Arizona, bringing together recent paintings and works on paper alongside a new site-specific artwork installation inaugurating ‘The Sonoran Project.’

The exhibition will be on view from October 24, 2026, through March 21, 2027, in the James J. and Louise R. Glasser Gallery (East). ‘The Sonoran Project’ will be shown in Mooney Hall from October 24, 2026, through June 25, 2028.

The installation inaugurates a series at TMA that invites artists from around the world to respond to the Sonoran Desert environmentally, culturally, historically, socially, or politically. Positioned in the museum’s entryway, Mooney Hall, the installation will be on view for two years, setting the tone for a program that generates globally relevant dialogue rooted in the region.

The exhibition attends to Hubbell’s expansive use of mediums, abstractions, and forms of display as sites of generation and intervention. Hubbell, born in 1986 and Diné, is an interdisciplinary visual artist who lives and works on his ancestral homelands on the Navajo Nation. His artistic practice bears Indigenous knowledge systems, expressed through a critical engagement with materials and mark-making.

Hubbell’s work prompts reflection on Indigenous presence and sovereignty in contemporary art and unsettles the structures that have historically defined its terms. Meg Jackson Fox, Ph.D., Chief of Curatorial and Convergent Practice, curated the exhibition in close collaboration with the artist.
