The Baker Museum at Artis—Naples opens the 14th edition of its annual "Florida Contemporary" exhibition on October 17, 2026. On view in the Hayes Hall galleries and the Blair Foundation Gallery until June 27, 2027, the show presents four artists working in Florida, chosen to reflect the range of approaches they bring to personal, local and global subjects.
Dustin Harewood, born in 1978, grew up between New York City and Barbados and lives in Jacksonville, where he has taught at Florida State College Jacksonville since 2004. A painter and muralist, he will create a site-specific mural in the Blair Foundation Gallery. According to the museum, his interests extend to the environmental and social effects of industrialization and colonialism.
Nicario Jiménez-Quispe, born in Ayacucho, Peru, in 1957 and now based in Naples, is a master of the retablo, the intricate mixed-media diorama tradition of the Andes. Shaped by a family practice, his retablos combine that tradition with contemporary themes of resilience, migration and daily life. His work has been shown nationally at venues including the Smithsonian Institution, which also holds it in its collection.
Savannah Magnolia, born in Fort Myers in 1996 and based in Tampa, first studied neuroscience at Boston University before turning to painting and earning a BFA from the Ringling College of Art and Design. Her stylized interpretations of human anatomy are made in a hard-edge manner with strongly saturated color.
Anastasia Samoylova, born in Moscow in 1984 and living in Miami, works across photography, painting and installation. Her work draws on the visual spectacle of Florida to address issues that run through contemporary life. In 2024–25 she was featured in "Floridas: Anastasia Samoylova and Walker Evans" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The exhibition is organized by Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum, and curated by Courtney McNeil, the museum's director and chief curator; Dianne Brás-Feliciano, curator of modern art; and Libby Harrington, director of museum exhibitions and operations. The featured artists will take part in a panel discussion on Thursday, January 28, 2027, in the Sharon and Timothy Ubben Signature Event Space. The museum advises that access to the galleries can be limited during ticketed performances in Hayes Hall.
