The programme is structured around three research presentations followed by a panel discussion. The presentation subjects are Hokusai’s hand-painted works, his relationship with literature, and his landscape paintings.
The panel discussion is scheduled for 15:25 to 16:25. The event information also cautions that the venue is not the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Attendance is limited to 110 people. Advance reservation is required, and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The first presentation examines a change in Hokusai’s painting style as seen in a newly identified folding screen. Its subject links a newly identified work to a shift in the artist’s style. The second presentation is titled ‘The Visualization of Language—Hokusai and Literature.’ It is presented by Fumiko Kobayashi, a professor at Hosei University, and addresses the visualization of language and Hokusai’s relationship with literature.
The third presentation asks how Hokusai created the idea of famous places. It is presented by Kenji Hinohara, chief curator of the Ōta Memorial Museum of Art.
