Aalto University’s architecture lecture season is organized around local memory, with Professor Jenni Reuter, head of the university’s Department of Architecture, inviting seven architects to discuss their design processes. The lectures are held online in English and are free to attend, making the programme’s discussions available without an attendance fee.

The announced speakers include Carles Baiges of Lacol on 28 October at 13.15, Clementine Blakemore on 11 November at 13.15, and Architecture Office 08014 on 18 November at 13.15.

The programme presents buildings as carriers of memory through their materials, their construction techniques, the traces left by use, and their relationship to place.

The series describes architecture as a continuation of history: a new chapter can be added instead of beginning from nothing. It calls this approach critical adaptation, in which existing buildings and their parts are reused rather than destroyed.

Reuter has curated the lecture series in collaboration with the Architecture Museum—now the Architecture & Design Museum—since 2016.
