Architecture and Design Museum published a news item on 24 September 2026 under the Finnish title ‘Tutkimusmatka Tove Janssonin tuuliselle luodolle’. Jutta Tynkkynen is the curator of the exhibition ‘Pako Muumilaaksoon’.
In summer 2025, Tynkkynen was able to immerse herself in Tove Jansson’s life in a particular way when she was given the opportunity to undertake a writing residency on Klovharu island. The journey to Klovharu gave her permission to concentrate for a while exclusively on writing, without the noise caused by modern means of communication.
Klovharu is a small, austere outer islet, and the cottage situated there was an important place for Jansson and her spouse, Tuulikki Pietilä, over the course of decades.
Klovharu, as well as Jansson’s studio home, were actively constructed refuges in which creative work, friendship, love and freedom were given room.
