‘KOO JEONG A: OUSSSEAN’ is scheduled to run from 17 October 2026 to 10 January 2027 at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin.

Since the early 1990s, South Korean artist KOO JEONG A, born in 1967 in South Korea, has worked with varied materials, ranging from found objects to large-scale public installations. These works play with perception and connect viewers to hidden forces that lie beyond the visible.

The exhibition title relates to Ousss, a fictional territory invented by the artist and imagined as a type of kingdom that could be perceived by the mind but not by the eye at first glance. The idea demands presence and patient attention.

Through modest yet enigmatic forms, KOO JEONG A assembles intangible elements—including forces, magnetic fields, phosphorescence, light, scent, sound and temperature—into multisensory environments. These environments probe perception and the limits of the visual register.

KOO represented South Korea at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2024. Selected solo exhibitions include Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul and Kunsthaus Bregenz in 2026, Haus der Kunst in Munich in 2025, and Dia Art Foundation in New York from 2010 to 2011. ‘KOO JEONG A: OUSSSEAN’ is curated by Emma Enderby and Liberty Adrien, with Lara Scherrieble as assistant curator.
