‘Interactions 2026’ runs until 1 November 2026. Following the 2025 thematic year devoted to ecological sustainability, the 2026 programme focuses on social sustainability, cohesion and attentiveness.

The exhibition comprises 18 works installed at the Bundeskunsthalle in the foyer and stair hall, on the ground floor and first floor, as well as on the museum square and roof. The works invite reflection and interactive play while examining images, language and music or sound as boundary-crossing, universal forms of communication.

Ólafur Elíasson’s ‘The collectivity project’ allows visitors to build imagined beautiful buildings individually or together from white LEGO bricks, with participation producing different images. With Constatin Luser’s ‘Protosaurus’, sounds can be produced, while Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann’s ‘Dirty Parrots’ generate sounds and words according to chance.

Philipp Messner’s ‘Constantly Shifting’ presents an apparently conventional colour image as an inlay in the museum square, where unintended interaction by people or nature keeps it changing. The artist duo FAMED contributes the statement, or prompt, ‘Trust People’, which can both question and strengthen trust.

Each work or project contains its own narrative or vision to be discovered alongside the interaction. The programme states that openness serves both individual and shared experience, and promotes togetherness, tolerance and sensitivity.
