On September 22, former curatorial fellow Susanne Bartels will lead a gallery talk on 'On Location: Drawing the Outdoors.'

The talk explores how 19th-century artists including Jean-François Millet, Vincent van Gogh, and Édouard Manet responded to industrialization and urbanization, depicting landscapes as both sites of labor and destinations for leisure.

The exhibition is on view from September 18, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The gallery talk is an in-person event at Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge.

The event page features Jean-François Millet’s 'Winter (The Plain of Chailly),' made around 1864 in pastel on brown wove paper.
