PEM’s Korean Art gallery and ‘Jung Yeondoo: Building Dreams’ will have opening weekend celebrations May 17–18. The program includes an artist Q&A and the debut of a new PEM-commissioned multimedia work. ‘Jung Yeondoo: Building Dreams’ features contemporary Korean artist and photographer Jung Yeondoo, who invites visitors to look more closely at their neighbors and imagine their dreams. The exhibition is presented in PEM’s Jeffrey P. Beale Gallery.
The exhibition highlights two major multipart photographic works: ‘Evergreen Tower’ (2001) and ‘Bewitched’ (2001–ongoing). The works are identified as the exhibition’s two major multipart photographic works. ‘Evergreen Tower’ is dated 2001, while ‘Bewitched’ is dated 2001–ongoing. Both works are included among the exhibition’s highlighted multipart photographic works.
After attending art school in London, Jung returned to Seoul in the early 2000s and discovered that the city had become a “concrete forest” of high-rise apartment complexes. Jung’s work was displayed in the Korea Pavilion at the 2005 Venice Biennial. In 2007, he became the youngest winner of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea’s Artist of the Year award.
