'Origami Unfolded' will be on view from December 5, 2026, through September 17, 2028.
This multigenerational exhibition in the Dotty Brown Art & Nature Center highlights origami as not just an exciting art form, but also an important influence on new innovations in science, engineering, math and more.
It will also investigate origami-inspired breakthroughs in robotics, medicine and sustainability. Interactive displays and video tutorials will give visitors of all ages hands-on opportunities to investigate and participate in origami’s artistic process.
Another work of paper art, an origami quilt folded by students from the 2025 Salem-Ota Cultural Exchange, will be displayed in the windows at 179 Essex Street in Salem.
'Emerging Peace,' a 2017 work by Kevin Box and Michael G. LaFosse, is from 'Origami in the Garden.' In the nearly two decades since the Peabody Essex Museum featured the exhibition 'Origami Now!,' contemporary origami has continued to expand into new styles of expression and invention.
