The performance is presented in response to ‘In Concert’, Mohri’s solo exhibition in The Curve. Two pianos will self-play through sounds made by objects salvaged from the Barbican carpark and activated by Mohri and Marclay, symbolically extending the exhibition into the adjacent space.
Transforming found objects into sound is central to both artists’ practices, and many of the items used in Mohri’s site-responsive Curve installation were sourced in the Barbican carpark. Mohri’s practice spans kinetic sculpture, sound, film, photography and painting, and often repurposes everyday and found objects through chains of reaction activated by magnetism, electricity, gravity, dust and water.
These unstable elements can generate changing sound, motion and scent within continuously transforming installations rather than a finished composition. Her work in The Curve is a site-responsive commission exploring states of flux and acts of repair through light, sound and kinetic sculpture featuring Barbican objects.
The performance is the latest in a series of collaborative sound performances by Mohri with artists and musicians including Akio Suzuki, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke. ‘Yuko Mohri: In Concert’ runs at The Curve from 1 October 2026 to 24 January 2027.
