The exhibition is presented as the opening event of Ingleby’s autumn programme, pairing Mitchell—an American painter from rural New Jersey—with Tomlin, an English sculptor who divides his time between a basement studio in inner-city London and a cabin in the German countryside.
Although the artists work in different media and live far apart, they share an approach that cherishes overlooked subjects and the integrity of objects made lovingly by hand.
Mitchell’s 2026 painting 'A Horse on the Horizon' is an oil painting on panel in an artist’s frame. His 2026 painting 'Red and Orange Poppies' is also an oil painting on panel in an artist’s frame.
The exhibition will be accompanied by two new publications.
