A discussion connected with the new exhibition ‘Sarah Charlesworth + Laurie Simmons + Sara VanDerBeek + Lucy Charlesworth Freeman’ is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. It will take place at the SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd., Savannah, Georgia.
The speakers are exhibiting artists Sara VanDerBeek and Lucy Charlesworth Freeman, together with Matthew C. Lange, studio manager of the Sarah Charlesworth Estate. They will speak about Charlesworth as a foundationally important artist and her influence on their own practices.
The exhibition extends beyond the importance of Charlesworth’s own artwork to convey her enduring relevance to current and future generations. The discussion will share new perspectives on how Charlesworth continues to expand understanding of photography’s role in the world today.
Lucy Charlesworth Freeman, MPH MS MA, was born in 1988 in New York and lives and works in New York. Her conceptually driven works combine diagrammatic systems, language, biological imagery, and spiritual inquiry, drawing on studies in medicine, public health, psychiatry, and theology. The discussion is presented as part of the SCAD Museum of Art’s fall season.
