'Imagining an Archipelago' will be presented in the Upper and Lower Jetté Galleries from July 11, 2026, through June 6, 2027. The exhibition brings together approximately fifty contemporary artworks by more than forty artists.
The presentation spans paintings, sculptures, videos, prints, photographs and multimedia installations, including several newly commissioned, site-specific works that explore artists’ relationships to the histories and communities of their lands and seas. Its unifying themes are cultural and political self-determination, indigeneity and migration, and climate crisis and resilience.
The exhibition is organized geographically to showcase each island’s uniqueness and thematically through groupings including Land, Sea and Sky; Religion and Spirituality; Food; and Military Occupations. The exhibition documentation identifies María Magdalena Campos-Pons’s ‘Freedom Trap’ (2013) among the works shown.
