Cuba, 1957–1996
Félix González-Torres was a Cuban-born American visual artist who lived and worked primarily in New York City from 1979 to 1995. His work often incorporated minimalist visual elements and everyday materials such as light bulbs, clocks, paper, and candies. González-Torres's art addressed themes related to his sexuality and societal stigma. He died in Miami in 1996 from AIDS-related illness.
