Jacob Lawrence was an American painter recognized for depicting African-American historical subjects and contemporary life. He described his style as "dynamic cubism," influenced by West African and Meso-American art. His work often portrayed everyday life in Harlem using a palette of blacks, browns, and vivid colors. Additionally, Lawrence served as a professor at the University of Washington for 16 years.
