Feliza Bursztyn features in 'Labouring Bodies' at Museum Tinguely. 'Labouring Bodies' runs from 10 June to 8 November 2026.
The exhibition explores the relationship between the body, labour and technology from a feminist perspective, showing how feminised and marginalised bodies have been shaped and controlled by machines and understood as sites of resistance. It spans the period from the early twentieth century to the present.
With 'Labouring Bodies', Museum Tinguely expands discourse around machines and movement to include a sociopolitical dimension, presenting mechanisation as an ongoing dynamic through which bodies are shaped and hierarchised while also opening spaces for artistic resistance.
Bursztyn began working with scrap metal and other discarded materials because they were accessible and because she had met the Nouveau Réalisme sculptor César. In 1965, she won first prize in sculpture at Colombia’s 17th Salón Nacional.
The exhibition is curated by Dr Sandra Beate Reimann and is accompanied by an extensive programme of events.
