‘N-11.1, 2011’ is the Artwork of the Month for October 2026.
The work began with three aluminium sheets discarded by an industrial company in Uster.
The machine-manufactured plates retain unpolished edges as well as small water and rust spots, details that give them a ‘human imperfection’. The forms were cut from the aluminium with a resource-saving CNC water jet, while small rounded marks show where the jet first struck the metal.
The title ‘N-11.1’ records the work’s designation: the ‘N’ was chosen at random, ‘11’ refers to the year 2011, and the number after the point identifies its sequence in that year, making it the first work of 2011.
Boller, born in 1966, studied fine art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Zürich and the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem in the Netherlands. He has exhibited regularly in Switzerland and abroad since 1993 and received numerous awards, including the Swiss Art Awards’ Federal Award for Fine Art in 1996, 1997 and 1998. Since 2007, he has held a professorship at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.
