Salamanca is a historian, writer and curator of Salvadoran art who lives in Mexico City, where she is a PhD candidate in History at the Colegio de México. She defines her practice through the milpa, an ancestral polyculture system in which maize, beans and squash grow together, as a metaphor for disciplines that converge in wide-ranging projects.
The interview presents archival research as a constant in her career, including work tracing women who fought for voting rights through artistic actions and women in exile who wrote suppressed histories.
Among the projects discussed is the Fiesta Ecléctica de las Artes, whose five editions generated a setting for creating an artistic scene in El Salvador and brought together different generations of artists.
