Final opportunity to see ‘Christine Swane. En mangfoldig ener’ is Sunday 13 September

The exhibition marks the 150th anniversary of Christine Swane’s birth and examines her long artistic development, from the period around the Fynbo painters to her independent modernist expression.

The museum describes Swane’s career as a sustained movement from the provincial Fynbo art environment of the 1890s, through Copenhagen’s artistic upheavals in the early 20th century, toward an independent and mature modernist expression visible from the 1920s through the 1950s. Swane was Johannes Larsen’s sister and closely connected to the Fynbo painters’ milieu, while developing an artistic expression of her own.

The exhibition presents her work across painting, ceramics and textiles. Across ceramics, textiles and decorative commissions, the museum identifies a coherent visual approach that is often light and poetic but carefully controlled.

The exhibition combines works from Johannes Larsen Museet’s collection with loans from museums and private collections, as well as newly acquired paintings and ceramic works. Johannes Larsen Museet says it holds the largest collection of Swane’s works, sketches and archival material.
