Track 16 Gallery is presenting its first exhibition with Los Angeles-based painter Roberta Gentry. The exhibition is on view at the gallery’s East Hollywood location from September 12 through October 24, 2026, with a reception on September 12 from 6–9pm.
Gentry’s new body of work is a visionary elaboration of elements from 'La Dame à la licorne,' a series of six tapestries created in Flanders around 1500.
The rhythm of the tapestry-weaving process appears in Gentry’s use of crossing linear symmetries from which images form and dissolve.
The exhibition’s imagery includes woven hair, vines, towering limbs, a lion, multiple ladies, a pipe organ, holly berries, heraldry and a unicorn.
'Blood Orange' shifts from the secluded garden imagery of Gentry’s earlier body of work, 'The Walled Garden,' toward a wild-grove setting.
Gentry’s paintings combine botany, science fiction and medieval iconography to explore how people construct mythologies for lived experience.
Her recent solo exhibitions include 'The Walled Garden' at Massey Klein Gallery in New York in 2025.
