The exhibition concludes a season of events marking Courthouse Gallery’s 20th anniversary. Its opening programme includes a reception and poetry reading on Wednesday, September 16, from 5–7pm, with the reading beginning at 6pm.
The exhibition brings together visual artists and poets from coastal communities surrounding the gallery to create personal interpretations of a “sense of place” within the region. While the spring exhibition, ‘Ellsworth As Muse,’ honored the gallery’s hometown, ‘Rooted In Art’ turns its attention to the broad network of coastal communities surrounding the gallery. Water, weather and light continually shape the landscape, giving this stretch of the Maine coast its quiet, enduring beauty.
The exhibition listing includes Philip Frey’s ‘Afternoon, Low Tide (Prospect Harbor)’ and Ragna Bruno’s ‘Wave,’ connecting the individual works to Prospect Harbor and Hancock. The participating poets are associated with Schoodic, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, Bucksport, Blue Hill, Brooksville, Winter Harbor, Penobscot, Somesville, Stonington and Seal Cove.
