The paintings emerge from an ongoing dialogue with personal archives of texts, images and studio research. These materials do not appear directly in the finished paintings; instead, they act as a quiet, sustaining presence during the work’s development.
Neudorf’s practice is described as loosely autobiographical and collage-informed, and as concerned with queer and transmasculine experience. The exhibition brings together new paintings by Kim Neudorf.
The title 'real_real'—the word “real” doubled in lowercase and joined by an underscore—signals openness rather than a single fixed idea or meaning. This approach is linked to catachresis, a literary device whose name means “misuse” in Greek, in which exaggeration, repetition and mixed metaphors allow language to express new forms that resist neat definition.
The exhibition embraces openness, ambiguity and multiplicity, reflecting an interest in forms that resist fixed definition and create space for more complex modes of seeing and being.
