Beelden aan Zee in The Hague will present ‘STONE – 80 Years of Sculpture in Stone’ from 27 January to 27 June 2027.
The survey will chart stone’s development from a classical sculptural medium to one associated with abstraction, conceptual art, spirituality and current social questions. Its international selection includes sculptures by Louise Bourgeois, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi, Richard Long, Alicja Kwade and Ugo Rondinone.
Dutch sculpture will hold a significant place within the exhibition’s international perspective. Mari Andriessen, Jan Meefout and Femmy Otten are among the artists named for the presentation, which brings the Dutch sculptural tradition into its wider account of work made in stone.
The museum describes the exhibition’s range as extending from the human figure and Land Art to minimalist and philosophical works.
