Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts will present ‘Michael Craig-Martin: Everyday Decoded’ from 3 October 2026 to 7 March 2027. The exhibition will occupy galleries 101–103 and the museum grounds.
Craig-Martin’s first solo exhibition in Taiwan surveys more than 50 years of his practice, from early conceptual works to recent digital production. It includes ‘An Oak Tree’ (1973), large-scale wall drawings, and works across painting, sculpture, printmaking and digital media.
The exhibition focuses on Craig-Martin’s use of outlined forms and saturated colour in depictions of everyday objects including mobile phones, light bulbs and headphones. These objects are presented as visual signs through the relationship between objects and images.
A central presentation is the international premiere of ‘Cosmos’ (2024), a digital animated installation incorporating images made by the artist over the past four decades. Craig-Martin said of the work: “This is the sum of Cosmos; it is my cosmos, and the culmination of my life’s work.”
An opening talk, ‘Decoding Martin—An Artist Inspiration Chatroom’, will take place on 3 October from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the museum’s basement lecture hall. Michael Craig-Martin will join the conversation, moderated by museum director Yan Ming-hong.
