The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto will present ‘Owner of a Lonely Heart’ from 24 October 2026 to 21 March 2027. Organised and developed by The Power Plant and The Vega Foundation, the programme brings together recent moving-image works by Haig Aivazian, Stephanie Comilang, Alia Farid, Hope Pearl Strickland and Yuyan Wang.
Curated to accompany the institution’s Fall 2026 season, the presentation will transform The Power Plant’s upstairs gallery into a theatre screening a continuous 80-minute programme.
‘Owner of a Lonely Heart’ explores entanglement as a condition of contemporary life, considering how people are bound by circumscribed geography and shaped by networks of extraction and circulation. The works trace raw materials drawn from the earth, circulated through waterways and transformed into commodities including pearls, oil, electricity and plastic. They also examine relations connecting labourers and ecosystems to global economies.
The programme opens alongside ‘Fogo’ by Sharon Lockhart and ‘Moonlit Confessions Across Deep Sea Echoes: Your Ancestors Are Whales, and Earth Remembers Everything’ by Zadie Xa with Benito Mayor Vallejo.
