The Clemens Sels Museum Neuss is presenting ‘Angelika March-Rintelen: Garden of Memory’, a studio exhibition running from 30 April to 11 October 2026.
The exhibition brings together works by Angelika March-Rintelen, who was born in Neuss in 1952 and received the CityARTists distinction in 2023. Her practice focuses on the conscious preservation of fragile and transient things from nature. A trained biologist and a master student of Timm Ulrichs, March-Rintelen works with paper cutting and plant preparation to create records for memory.
Through sewing, the artist recreates plants and animals, while conservation methods preserve their natural appearance. Her “Spurensicherung” also includes humans as part of nature. Assemblages including ‘Fränkisches Gräberfeld’ and ‘Moorleiche’ are presented as multilayered vanitas depictions.
A programme accompanying the exhibition includes the workshop ‘Eat Art – Zuckerblume. Anleitung zur Konservierung’ with March-Rintelen on 28 May, and ‘Die Dior-Rose. Entwicklung eines plastischen Pflanzenbildes mit Nadel und Faden’ on 28 June. On 9 September, museum director Dr. Uta Husmeier-Schirlitz will lead a ‘Kunst & Kuchen’ tour followed by coffee and cake.
