Lina Lapelytė and Alessandro Sciarroni will meet at Triennale Milano on 16 September for a public conversation connected to Lapelytė’s performance ‘Mud Works’, part of the FOG Performing Arts Festival 2026. The discussion is scheduled for 7pm in Voce, on the institution’s lower-ground floor, and will last approximately 60 minutes.
Titled ‘Lina Lapelytė in dialogue with Alessandro Sciarroni’, the event will focus on participatory and collaborative practices in the performing arts. According to Triennale Milano, the conversation will also consider how museums and public spaces can function as sites of interaction, experimentation and the formation of temporary communities. A moderator had not yet been announced when the event information was published.
‘Mud Works’ was commissioned by Triennale Milano and the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius במסגרת the European project PIT—Perform, Inform, Transform: Participatory Performance in Art Museums, which is co-financed by the European Union. The work combines singing with sculptural action in a collective performance that takes shape in Triennale’s garden. The related performance is listed for 19 September as part of the FOG season.
Lapelytė, born in Kaunas, Lithuania, in 1984, is an artist and composer whose performance practice draws on music while examining pop culture, gender stereotypes and nostalgia. She works with professional and non-professional performers to create collective singing performances. Her best-known work, ‘Sun & Sea (Marina)’, made in collaboration with Vaiva Grainytė and Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, won the Golden Lion for Best National Participation for the Lithuanian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019.
The Triennale describes Lapelytė’s work as engaging with systems of silencing and inviting vulnerability through collective performance. Her projects have been presented at venues and festivals including Festival d’Automne and Bourse de Commerce in Paris, Wiener Festwochen, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Performa in New York, MOCA in Los Angeles, the Venice Biennale, the Taipei and Shanghai Biennales, and Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. The institution also lists forthcoming presentations at Tate Modern in London, Galeria Municipal do Porto, CAC in Vilnius and the Medina Triennial in New York.
Sciarroni is an Italian artist working in the performing arts, with a background in visual art and theatre research. His productions draw on dance, circus and sport, and often involve artists from different disciplines. Triennale Milano describes his practice as using the repetition of physical actions—sometimes pushed to the limits of endurance—to examine the obsessions, fears and fragility of performance while seeking an empathetic relationship between spectators and performers. Sciarroni received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Dance in 2019 and is an associated artist of MARCHE TEATRO.
